  MOTORSPORT RETURNS TO CHINGOLA
This coming weekend sees motorsport make a long awaited return to Chingola, after an 18 year break, with a “Double Header” event comprising the 4th Round of the National Off Road Championships on Saturday 23rd, and the 3rd Round of the Junior Off Road Series on Sunday 24th.

Once a “Power House” of motor racing activities during the 70’s and 80’s, with Road Racing, at the now defunct Lawrence Allan Circuit, Moto-cross and Rally, this weekend’s event will hopefully see the rebirth of motorsport and herald the start of a new era of motorsport for this Copperbelt town.

Based at Newlands Farm, Saturday’s event will see the top off road protagonists line up to tackle their 3hr non-stop event, on a route that will be both technical and demanding.

Leading the charge in the Senior Class, Mazabuka’s David Reeve (Jacaranda Plant KTM) will be looking to extend his championship lead over evergreen veteran Copperbelt rider, Dale Holliday (Honda), and his Jacaranda Plant KTM team mate Rob Marsden.

Keeping these front runners honest will be a host of KTM riders including, Brian Cocker, Adrian Bignell and Marcus Pieterse, whilst home town interest will be centred on Yamaha mounted, Nick Heygate.

With Lusaka based rider, Carsten Kruger, sidelined through injury, the Senior Quad class provides the best opportunity for a Chingola win, with Rusty Shiel and Adam Bousfield heading the charge for race honours.

With additional classes for Novice bikes, Novice Quads and Clubman riders, a full field of competitors is in prospect.

Once the Senior action is over on Saturday, on Sunday it will be over to the Junior riders to show their mettle.

More used to the confines of the motocross track, the “Little Ones” will tackle a shortened route, over 1 ˝ hrs of riding.

With no clear leader yet emerging in the junior classes, it will be very much an open race as these riders look to establish themselves in this new form of competition.

The organizing committee have put in a tremendous amount of effort in the lead up to this weekend to ensure that they put on a top quality event, and re-establish Chingola at the heart of motorsport activity in Zambia

AMU Moto-Cross-Championships in Kenya
From the 17th to the 19th of August the Moto Cross Africa Championships 2007 will be hosted in the vicinity of Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
Planning by the Namibians started early this season already but by March it was clear that the costs for the Namibian national team would be too high. As often before, the endeavour failed due to the costs for the transportation of the bikes. Unfortunately the invitation had to be turned down.
Last week the Windhoek Moto Cross Club – the highest authority in Namibian MX-sport – received a message which stated that great value is placed on the participation of a Namibian-Team and the EAMSC (East African Motor Sports Club) is prepared to provide bikes for the junior classes. Now, excited planning kicked in and costs were re-evaluated. Five days later it was clear: Namibia will take part!
The following riders will represent Namibia in this important race:
50 cc Class: Michael Barlow und Matthew Nederlof
65 cc Class: Eric Garbers, Pauli Loots, Tristan Muller
85 cc Junior Class: Mark Sternagel
85 cc Senior Class: Jaco Loots
Tobie Barlow is team-captain and Eric Garbers Sen. functions as coach. Thorsten Sternagel and Paul Loots will demonstrate their abilities as mechanics. Since the riders are not fully informed about the condition of the bikes, they will carry along their own motors as well as suspension-elements. As the maximum amount of luggage allowed comprises of 20 kg, clothing will have to be reduced dramatically, dear mothers!
Despite the generous allocation of bikes for which the WMCC is very grateful, the costs are still extremely high for our Namibian riders. The family Loots for example has to spend an amount of N$50.000 (Fifty Thousand N$) for two grown-ups and two MX-riding sons. Michael Nederlof, as the Namibian AMU-representative hopes that the Namibian Sports Council and the NMSF (Namibian Motor Sports Federation) will support this endeavour with a generous amount of money. The local industry is called upon as well to support this trip to Kenia.
The following countries have confirmed their participation: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Saudi-Arabia, Tunisia, Marocco, Namibia, and the host Kenya.
